Our family and the Foundation have been long-time supporters of the Boys and Girls Club, particularly in Brevard County where our founder, Bernie Simpkins, held the Cocoa branch dear to his heart. Our involvement led us to the new Oviedo, FL Boys and Girls Club location which opened it’s doors in the midst of the pandemic in March, 2021. The Oviedo branch serves local school children and provides after-school care, tutoring, healthy snacks and enrichment activities, equating to more opportunities, safety, life skills training, mentorships and a bettering of the local community.
Our Foundation granted $10,000 as a gift to the Oviedo branch to build their program shortly after opening. Board member Brittany Sobering was able to tour the new facility and was so impressed by all it has to offer. She also attended a Birthday Club event where children with that birthday month are celebrated with a joint party after school.
Most recently, the Club held a Faces of the Future fundraising breakfast and Brittany proudly represented our Board. Along with Seminole County Sherriff Dennis Lemma and other notable community figures, some of the BAGC graduates and current youth got onstage and poured their hearts into this opportunity to address local citizens and community leaders. $100,000 was raised for Seminole County BAGC alone! We love seeing local organizations at work creating such positive change in our communities!
